Stacey from Apple Tree Consultancy trained the SCS assessors in Cultural Mindfulness training last week. She ‘lit the fire of welcome’ for the team, promoting conversation and yarning about the impacts of intergenerational trauma on the First Nation’s peoples. Her inviting, warm and professional yet relaxed approached helped the team to openly reflect on the challenges faced by our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people due to historic and current polices and procedures, societal beliefs and stereotypes. Having a mindful approach to assessing Aboriginal and non-Indigenous carers alike will add to the team’s sensitive and respectful approach to the foster and kinship care work we do around the country.
